01Requirements

macOS only for now. There is no Windows, iPad or web version.
02Download and install
- Get the DMG from the download page
- Open it and drag Meerpix into your Applications folder
- Eject the disk image and launch Meerpix from Applications or Launchpad
If macOS says it can't verify the developer
This usually means the download was interrupted, the file is incomplete, or the build didn't come from our site. First check that you downloaded from meerpix.com.
Once you've confirmed the source, find Meerpix in Applications, Control-click the icon, choose Open, then click Open again in the dialog. You only need to do this once per machine.
Making Meerpix the default viewer
In Finder, right-click any image → Get Info → under "Open with", choose Meerpix → click "Change All". Double-clicking that format will then open Meerpix.

Which camera models are covered for RAW is decided by macOS itself. If a particular camera's files won't open, updating macOS usually resolves it. Tell us the model when it happens and we'll keep track.

06Common questions
Why does opening one image let me page through the whole folder?
That's the default behaviour. When you open an image, Meerpix reads the other image files in the same folder, sorts them by filename into a sequence, and decodes the images either side in advance — so paging is close to instant.
Can I edit the recognised text?
Yes. The result appears over the image and can be edited and copied. Recognition runs locally on your Mac and needs no network connection.
The recognition isn't accurate. What can I do?
Accuracy depends on resolution, contrast and how far the text is skewed. Low-resolution screenshots and photos shot at a steep angle are noticeably harder. Zooming in until the text is clearly legible before selecting usually helps.
Does it modify my original files?
No. Rotation affects the current display only and is never written back. Meerpix is a viewer — it has no editing or saving.
Can I use it without a mouse?
Yes. The trackpad handles pinch-to-zoom and two-finger paging, and arrow keys or a click on the edge of the image work just as well.
Does it cost anything?
No. Every feature in the current version is free — no in-app purchases, no trial period, no feature gates.
How do I uninstall it?
Drag Meerpix from Applications to the Trash. Settings live in ~/Library/Preferences and can go too. Meerpix installs no background services, login items or system extensions.
07Reporting a problem
Please include as much of the following as you can. Reports with these details can usually be diagnosed directly, which saves a round of questions:
- Meerpix version (menu bar → Meerpix → About)
- macOS version and machine type (Intel or Apple Silicon)
- Image format, and the camera model if it's a RAW file
- Steps to reproduce: what you did, what you expected, what happened instead
- A screenshot for display or crash issues — please don't send private images; any file that reproduces the same problem will do
