Privacy Policy
The short version: Meerpix runs locally on your Mac. It does not upload your images, does not read their contents for any other purpose, and has no user accounts. The app makes no network requests at all. The only data we hold is the anonymous traffic figures generated when you visit this website.
01What we don't collect
Stating the negatives first, because they're the part that matters:
- No images you open, no thumbnails, no derived files
- No input to or output from text recognition
- No filenames, folder paths or directory structure
- No EXIF, GPS or other metadata read out of your images
- No sign-up, no accounts, no email address, phone number or other identifying information
- No advertising SDKs, no profiling, and nothing sold or shared with third parties
02Images and text recognition
Images you open stay on your device. Decoding, scaling, rotation and read-ahead all happen in memory on your Mac.
Text recognition uses the local recognition capability that ships with macOS, and the computation happens on your machine. It needs no network connection, and results are never sent to a server. You can verify this by using the feature with networking disabled.
03File access
Meerpix touches two kinds of file: the image you deliberately opened, and the other images in the same folder — the second is what makes "open one, browse the folder" work.
It does not scan beyond those two categories, does not walk your home directory, and does not index anything in the background. When macOS asks for permission to reach your Desktop, Documents or an external volume, you're free to decline; declining affects browsing in that location and nothing else.
04Network requests the app makes
None. Meerpix contains no networking code at all — no update check, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no remote configuration. There is no setting to turn off, because there is nothing to turn off.
You can check this without taking our word for it: disconnect from the network and every feature still works, including text recognition.
One thing worth explaining before you find it yourself. The app's sandbox profile does declare the outbound-network entitlement, and an inspection tool will show it. That is there because two macOS subsystems require it — the WebKit process that renders SVG files, and the system share sheet's service discovery (AirDrop and friends). Without it the SVG renderer crashes inside the sandbox and the share panel hangs. Meerpix itself still initiates no requests.
05What this website collects
The website and the app are separate things, so they're described separately.
Anonymous traffic figures
We use a cookie-free analytics setup that records page views, referring sites and approximate region at the country level. The data is aggregated; it carries no identifier that points back to a person, and it does not track you across sites.
Download counts
Clicking a download button records one download event: the time, the version, and the referral channel. We record how many, not who — the record is not tied to your IP address or to any identifier.
Server logs
As on any website, the web server keeps access logs (IP, time, path, User-Agent) for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for 90 days.
06Cookies
This site sets no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is your light/dark theme choice, if you change it by hand — and that never leaves your device.
07Third-party services we use
| Service | Purpose | What it may see |
|---|---|---|
| Web hosting and CDN | Serving pages and installers | Access logs (IP, time, path) |
| Object storage | Holding the installer files | Download request logs |
| Analytics | Aggregate traffic figures | Aggregated data with no personal identifiers |
| Apple App Store | Distribution through the store | Governed by Apple's privacy policy; we see only aggregate sales and download reports |
None of them receive your images or recognition results, for the simple reason that we never hold them either.
08Retention
- Images and recognition results: never received, so there is nothing to retain
- Website server logs: deleted automatically after 90 days
- Aggregate statistics and download counts: kept indefinitely, but they contain no personal information
09Your rights
Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is usually nothing to access, correct or delete. If you believe we hold information relating to you nonetheless, write to the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with dedicated data protection legislation, nothing in this policy limits the rights that law gives you.
10Children
Meerpix is a general-purpose image viewer. It is not designed for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, this holds equally for every age group.
11Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — for instance if any form of data collection is added — we will update the version number and effective date at the top of this page and note it in the app's release notes. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
